Biography

Born in Senegal, SARR obtained a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. After his Ph.D., he has been Assistant, then Associate Professor for six years, successively at the Center for African Area Studies and the Research Institute of Sustainable Humanosphere at Kyoto University, Japan. SARR is now a senior researcher at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), leading the soil microbiology laboratory. His research focuses on the beneficial interactions soil microbial communities entertain with plants to overcome soil nutrients limitation and improve agricultural production in resources-limited countries. He collaborates with universities, and research organizations in many African countries like Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Madagascar. For social activities, SARR was the president of FOSA (Fukuoka Overseas Student Association) in 2008-2009, founding member of ASKU (African Society of Kyushu University, founding member, and first President of AAK (Association of Africans in Kyoto).
