Francesca Conate was born and raised in California by her Sierra Leonean father and African American mother. Her pride in her African heritage was strong but sadly her father died when she was only 12 years old and she lost contact with her relatives in Sierra Leone for over 3 decades. In 2006 she had the amazing opportunity that she had always dreamed of which was to meet her family on Sierra Leonean soil. The trip made her more passionate about supporting her father’s homeland even from Japan where Francesca was living and working as an English teacher. She became the project ambassador of West Japan for Soroptimist International’s 4-year commitment to raise $ 2 million dollars. This was a global fundraiser to support sustainable development projects in 5 regions of Sierra Leone for women and children. |
